   About the Company

Heading up the "Team" at Port River Marine are working Directors Jim and Leica Theodore. Jim and Leica registered the Company in 1985 after several years of running a small operation from Davis Street Largs North, on the Port River.

The formation of a company was just the beginning of their steady road to expansion and success. The current facility spans over 17,000m2 and is situated on the Port River at Snowdens Beach. Jim and Leica have planned exciting new developments over the next few years, bringing their facilities to a standard that is amongst the best in South Australia.

With the implementation of an integrated Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System; with third party certification to the Australian/International Standards, Jim and Leica proudly lead the way in the Marine Industry.

   The Port River Team

Jim Theodore is a gentleman and a scholar, but more importantly he is a true professional in the Marine Industry. Having built his first boat at the age of nine on his parents Cane Farm on the Russel River, his passion for boat building started at a very early age. He began his apprenticeship with 'A.K. & D.A. Allen', well-known Boat Builders in Innisfail, North Queensland. After finishing his apprenticeship, Jim ventured out on a working holiday that was supposed to end up in Perth; this included working for Frank Woodnutt where they built the game fishing boat called "Sea Venture". Jim landed in Adelaide and fortunately for the industry and Leica, he decided to stay. Jim began work on the Fit-out of two Bowman 47ft yachts, and after he had rented some shed space from Porters Boat Yard, Precision Marine approached him to build two Pilot Boats for the S.A. Government.

During the building of the Pilot boats Jim met Leica and the "real" Team began, together they improved the facilities and grew the business to what is today the largest boat service facility in S.A. Jim and Leica don't see themselves as "The Team", they believe the staff, their suppliers, contractors, clients, dealerships, friends and family make up the true team at Port River Marine and that's what makes them proud. It's that pride, inspiration, foresight and mutual respect that puts Port River Marine above the rest.

If you haven't met the team at Port River Marine, it's time you did!

Steve Siwicki has been with the company for several years and his quality of service to both his customers and his peers is nothing short of fantastic. Steve is the Assistant Slipmaster (second only to Jim) and basically the yards 2IC. Having an extensive background in boats from a very young age and skippering his late grandfathers 55ft Randell for the last 10 years, Steve is more than capable of delivering any craft and teaching new owners how to handle their craft and enjoy boating. Steve has been known to even plot some of his favourite fishing spots on the GPS's for new boat owners to ensure they take home a feed of fish. Steve's dedication to the company has been paramount in its continued success.

Keith Crowley first met Jim in Far North Queensland when they worked together while Jim was doing his apprenticeship some 30 odd years ago. During one of Jim's home visits to Queensland he met up with Keith enticing him to come to Adelaide and has been with the Company now for over 5 years. Keith is our most Senior Shipwright and having such an extensive knowledge in boat building and repairs, Keith's main role is the overseeing of jobs throughout the yard. Keith is in charge of the store and all that goes in or out of it. Keith treats the company as if it was his own and is a perfectionist in all he does. His dedication is transmitted throughout the team.

Mark Heeps is the company's resident fibreglasser and has been with the company for several years. With a strong background in the industry, Mark can choppergun up a full mould or just repair a small hole. Mark's finish leaves no tell tale signs, another feature of quality produced by skilled craftsmen at Port River Marine, which is underpinned by thorough preparation. Mark works closely with the apprentices at Port River Marine to ensure that a good job is based on good preparation. Mark is a strong team member and prides himself in his work.

Wally Dunduk, a qualified shipwright and originally from the Ukraine, joined the company some years ago just to assist during the school holidays while he was on holidays from his teaching job at the Port Adelaide Campus where he taught Boat Building /Shipwright. Wally decided to continue to work for Port River Marine during the day whilst he also taught at night. Wally is very much involved in the re-fitting of pre-loved craft and the engineering of new craft. As a qualified draftsman there seems to be no end to the skill Wally injects into the company. His teaching background is a big help to the apprentices in their weekly studies, yet another asset to the company.

Steve Hedley is another one of Jim and Leica's best assets and proud of it. He completed his full Boat Building apprenticeship with Port River Marine finishing in the top of his class and specialising in marine coatings. Steve has a brilliant track record in the re-spraying and finishing of all marine craft. He prides himself in his work and it shows in the mirror finishes achieved from the tip of his gun. Personally taught by Jim, Steve has the edge on Port River Marine's competitors, and that's no mean fete as Jim also taught most of them. Steve also teaches the company's two apprentices his techniques with focus on the importance of preparation.
